The reasoning reminds one of the Grand Inquisition: If you happen to drown while we're dunking you, the Tribunal has all the proof necessary that you were, indeed, consorting with the devil. Good reason to shift our national debate back from the budget to what's lurking behind so-called conservative values. And if you haven't already done so, read "The Handmaid's Tale" by Margaret Atwood. And weep.
