While Congress farts around with the debt ceiling

Some members are using all the fustian and bombast as cover to move their unsavory projects forward. One of them is the business overseas profits tax holiday. Matt Taibbi has some updates on that and who to look out for in this latest corporate sweetheart deal. With all the talk about the US going broke, this deal is a real shitty piece of work.

Another stealth disaster being cooked up in the Senate is an extension of telco immunity for spying on Americans. This is much wanted by the feds because if their tools have immunity, they can spy on us to their heart's content.
Amid the calamitous debt-limit talks seizing Washington in recent weeks, the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence kick started yesterday the mark-up of legislation that would reapprove the spying activities and telecom immunity.

While the Obama administration has urged the FAA's renewal, at least two Senators are calling for greater caution in the process. Sens. Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Mark Udall (D-CO) asked the director of national intelligence to explain how the Obama administration had applied the 2008 act, and to provide an estimate of how many Americans' communications were spied upon.

The administration refused to provide an estimate, according to The Associated Press.
The administration refused to provide an estimate because you don't really want to know. Chances are that if you are one of the "Professional Left" they have checked you out. You are the biggest threat.
