The Junkers Ju-87 illustrates the rapid advance of airplane technology in WWII. What began the war as a devastatingly effective dive bomber in the first years of the war, was merely a slow, lumbering target by 1944, easy prey for newer, more advanced and faster fighters. Surprisingly, despite the German preference for dive bombing, they never developed an adequate replacement for the Stuka.
