You Had To Be There At The Time


Karen Dalton was part of the 60s New York folk scene and much admired by her fellow musicians. She recorded two albums that didn't break out but did leave us a record of this unique and wonderful musician.

Oh my. Reading the Wikipedia entry on her is painful.

I don't know if I'd call what she did folk. Sounds more like Billie Holiday sings the country blues.
 
She certainly had a right to sing the blues, but much of her songbook is in the folk genre, albeit in her unique styling.
