If the troops don't get paid

Will they continue to fight? Wouldn't we all be better served if they settled back into a defense only posture? After all, it's not like they are defending us from any real enemy.

When the Roman Senate cut off pay for Roman legions, the usual response was that the legion turned away from the frontier and marched on Rome and installed one of their own as Emperor, shortening a few Senators by a head's height in the process.

Historical precedent? Or our future? Either way, it's ain't gonna be pleasant.
