Friday Night Airplane Blogging (A little Late)
The Grumman F4F Wildcat was the frontline Navy carrier fighter for the first years of WWII. This stubby mid wing monoplane was no match in a dogfight with the Japanese Zero. However it was rugged and with 6 .50 cal machines guns and a faster dive speed than the Zero, it could hold its own when flown by capable pilots like Joe Foss, Butch O'Hare and Jimmy Thach. As with the Avenger, Grummans work on the F6F required that they farm out later production to GM's Eastern Aircraft.Subscribe to Posts [Atom]
